Tips for healthy living
Taking care of your body:
- Exercise at least 3 times a week or as advised by an orthopedist and physical therapist
- Eat nutritious, healthy foods
- Maintain an ideal body weight
- Avoid tobacco to decrease the risk for heart disease and cancer as well as other smoking-related illnesses
Managing your hemophilia:
- Maintain an infusion log—track your infusions and bleeds; record the date, time, and reason for infusion; product name, lot number, and dosage
- Reorder factor therapy before it runs out
- Keep factor available when you are away from home, and be sure you have a backup plan for when you don't have factor on hand
- Always carry or wear a medical identifier
- Carry a letter from your health care provider stating the type and severity of hemophilia you have and describing your treatment needs
- Make sure you always have contact numbers or addresses of people, clinics, and health centers that can provide immediate information and necessary medical attention when needed
